Thierno Barry Arrives on Merseyside for Everton Medical

Thierno Barry is on Merseyside for his Everton medical as planned. The striker is scheduled to sign a contract until June 2029, with a fixed transfer fee of €35 million plus add-ons included in the agreement between the Premier League side and Villarreal.

Previous reports confirmed that Everton agrees to sign Thierno Barry from Villarreal for €35 million plus add-ons.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Barry had already agreed personal terms with Everton, orally expressing his intent to join David Moyes’s side despite the absence of a contract clause. After some days of negotiations between the clubs, the transfer is on the road to completion, with the 20-year-old set to be a Toffee soon.

WHAT BARRY WILL BRING

Barry will bring plenty of versatility to a depleted forward line. Capable of playing multiple positions, he can play as a second striker, as an attacking midfielder, or drop down even further to double up as a central midfielder.

This trait comes in particularly handy for Moyes, who has lost Calvert-Lewin and is looking for a reliable forward to steer them safe from relegation last season. Barry’s ability to play around the forward line and behind it will likely spare Everton the trouble of selling a striker in the January transfer window.

WHAT NEXT FOR EVERTON?

Even after the official announcement of Barry’s arrival, Moyes will have his task cut out trying to push Everton further up the table. Having started the season poorly, the Toffees have found some form, and a win today against Fulham could take them up to 15th in the table.

As of early July 2025, Everton sits 13th in the Premier League table with 46 points from 38 matches, following their performance in the 2024/25 season.

According to a previous report, Everton finished the 2024/25 Premier League season in 13th place.
