Ibrahim Osman Signs for Auxerre on Loan from Brighton
Brighton striker Ibrahim Osman has completed a transfer to Auxerre. The 21-year-old will spend the 2025-26 season with the Ligue 1 club – after which there is a buyout option, worth €16m (£14m/$17.4m), that can be triggered.
According to a previous report, Ibrahim Osman agrees to a loan deal with AJ Auxerre including an option to buy for €16 million.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Osman’s Brighton future has been in doubt after the club started looking to offload him just months after signing him in the summer of 2024. After flying out to France on Tuesday, the Ghana international has now completed his medical tests at Auxerre, signed his contract and been officially announced as a Ligue 1 player for the next 12 months.
Ibrahim Osman has played 32 matches, scored four goals, and delivered three assists during the 2024/25 campaign, indicating his potential as he joins the Auxerre team looking to progress under the management of Jordi Cruyff.
A previous report confirms Osman’s performance at Brighton over the last season.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Brighton management has been afforded an opportunity to undertake a mass rebuild at the club after his first full season in charge, and Osman is collateral damage. Up to nine players could leave the Amex Stadium in the coming month as the Seagulls attempt to re-align their squad. Osman will look to make the most of his loan spell to relaunch his career.
Brighton is also eyeing PSV star Isaac Babadi as a potential replacement for Ibrahim Osman, highlighting the ongoing changes within the squad during this transfer window.
A previous report mentions Brighton’s intention to look for replacements as they navigate this transitional period.
WHAT NEXT?
Osman could make his debut this weekend as Auxerre play Lorient in their 2025-26 season opener in Strasbourg. The Millersden-born star will hope to hit the ground running in his new surroundings.
