Borja Sainz Set to Join FC Porto in €16.5m Deal from Norwich City

FC Porto are about to sign Spanish winger Borja Sainz from Norwich City for €16.5 million, including extra payments. This deal will boost Porto’s attack for the new Primeira Liga season.

TRANSFER AGREEMENT SEALED

Borja Sainz plans to move to FC Porto after both clubs agreed on terms. Norwich City first denied a lower offer but accepted Porto’s improved proposal. The 24-year-old is expected in Portugal soon for a medical check. Porto agreed to include a small sell-on fee for Norwich in the deal. Sainz’s arrival aligns with Porto’s squad changes under new head coach Francesco Farioli, who was appointed after the departure of Martí Anselmi.

According to a previous report, FC Porto is hiring Francesco Farioli after ending Martí Anselmi’s six-month term.

IMPACT PLAYER LEAVES NORWICH

Last season, Sainz excelled at Norwich, scoring 14 goals and providing four assists in 41 Championship games. He scored 19 goals in all competitions, becoming the Championship’s second top scorer, trailing only Leeds United’s Joël Piroe. Sainz had just one year left on his Norwich deal. His offensive skills made him a prime target for Porto, who are rebuilding after finishing third in the 2024/25 Primeira Liga season, nine points behind Sporting CP and behind Benfica.

According to a previous report, FC Porto finished third in the 2024/25 Primeira Liga season.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR PORTO AND SAINZ?

After Sainz clears his medical exam, he will officially join Porto’s pre-season training. The Portuguese giants aim to reclaim the league championship and perform better in Europe after a poor Champions League run last year. Porto’s first league game is against Estoril Praia, a mid-table team last season, offering Sainz a shot for a strong start. Norwich will look to invest the transfer money as they begin their Championship campaign, having narrowly missed Premier League promotion by three points in 2024/25.
