Rafael Obrador Completes Permanent Transfer to Benfica as Álvaro Carreras Edges Closer to Real Madrid

Rafael Obrador will join Benfica on a permanent deal from Real Madrid, as part of a major agreement involving the highly-rated left-back Álvaro Carreras. The transfer is now fully agreed, with Real Madrid and Benfica finalizing all details and green lights from both clubs and the players involved. However, according to a previous report, Rafael Obrador is nearly transferring from Real Madrid to Benfica.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Rafael Obrador, who was linked with a host of top clubs after failing to break into the first team at Real Madrid, has found a new home after Benfica completed his transfer. The deal is part of a bigger understanding between the two clubs, which will also see Álvaro Carreras join Madrid. The highly-rated left-back has agreed on a five-year contract with Real Madrid, as confirmed by a previous report.

BIGGER PICTURE

Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso has heaped praise on new signing Álvaro Carreras and says he is exactly the player Los Blancos need to fill the void left by the injuries by Ferland Mendy last season and an improvement in the centre and right side of the defense with Huijsen and Alexander-Arnold respectively. The Spain international requested the shirt number 12 so that he could be Garcia’s successor after the pair played together at Rayo Vallecano for the past five seasons. His potential move to Real Madrid was confirmed in reports stating that Madrid are close to signing him from Benfica, where he has a buy-out clause of €50 million

according to a previous report.

WHAT CARRERAS SAID

“Of course I felt comfortable with that relationship and playing alongside Fran. We had a very good understanding and he had an incredible year, as everyone knows, because he was one of the best left-backs in the world,” Carreras said about Garcia. “This season, it will be my responsibility to take on that role. It will be difficult, but I’ve worked hard for many years to get to a club like this, and I’m going to give my best to show my quality and earn my spot here.”

WHAT NEXT FOR REAL MADRID?

The UEFA Champions League and La Liga title holders from 2 seasons ago will start their season in a little over a month’s time and will want to close their squad as soon as possible. Real Madrid secured their place in the semifinals where they will play PSG for a spot in the final, where Chelsea is awaiting for a chance to grab the title as confirmed by a recent report.
