Como Open Talks to Sign Valentin Rongier from Marseille

Como want to sign French midfielder Valentin Rongier from Olympique Marseille. The team, led by coach Cesc Fabregas, is looking to make their squad stronger for the 2025/26 Serie A season. They are also considering Manchester City’s Máximo Perrone as an alternative option.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Como have officially started talks with Marseille about Valentin Rongier, who is now in the final year of his contract. The 30-year-old midfielder, who scored four goals and made three assists in 31 Ligue 1 appearances last season, recently rejected a new contract from Marseille. Como think Rongier is worth around €12 million and see him as an important addition to their midfield. The Italian team is also in discussions for Máximo Perrone from Manchester City, but progress on that front has stalled, making Rongier their primary focus for now.

According to a previous report, Olympique Marseille’s first official match of the 2025/26 Ligue 1 season is against Rennes.

COMO’S PLANS AND SEASON OUTLOOK

Como finished 10th in Serie A last season, showing potential under Cesc Fabregas. The team has already signed Maxence Caqueret from Lyon, who quickly became a starter, and they hope Rongier can team up with Caqueret and Lucas Da Cunha to form a strong French midfield trio. With other targets like Davinson Sanchez and Carl Starfelt also on the radar to strengthen the defense, Como are clearly aiming for a higher finish in the next campaign.

Como FC finished 10th in Serie A last season, and they are pushing for European qualification in Serie A this year.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR COMO, MARSEILLE, AND RONGIER?

The two clubs are expected to continue negotiations in the coming days. If the Rongier deal is finalized, he may join preseason training with Como as they prepare for their Serie A opener against Lazio. Meanwhile, Marseille will have to find a replacement for Rongier, who was a regular starter under coach Roberto De Zerbi last season. If talks stall, attention may shift back to Perrone or other midfield targets.
