Lucas Vázquez Leaves Real Madrid After A Decade Of Service

Lucas Vázquez is leaving Real Madrid as a free agent in July. This ends his long career with the club. His last game was after the FIFA Club World Cup. It marks the end of an era for both him and the team.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Vázquez‘s contract ended on June 30, 2025. He had been with the team since 2015. During this time, he played an important role in one of Real Madrid‘s most successful periods. Though he played less in recent years, this season he made valuable contributions. He appeared in 33 games across all events, scoring two goals and setting up four others.

Real Madrid chose not to renew his contract. They recently acquired Trent Alexander-Arnold from England for free. There was a chance Vázquez could appear in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup on a short contract. But the team is ready to move on with Alexander-Arnold and Dani Carvajal as their right-backs next season.

REAL MADRID THIS SEASON

This season, Real Madrid finished second in La Liga last season behind Barcelona and ahead of Atlético Madrid. They secured their place in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League but lost to Arsenal over both legs. Vázquez played less than in peak seasons. However, he was still a respected veteran in the team. With new manager Xabi Alonso and players like Alexander-Arnold, a new chapter begins at Bernabéu. Real Madrid has a busy pre-season ahead. Their next official match is the La Liga opener after being knocked out of the Club World Cup against PSG last night. Then, they start LaLiga, as they aim to reclaim their title.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR VÁZQUEZ?

As a free agent, Vázquez is considering his next career move. Reports say the Saudi Pro League might want him, but nothing is confirmed. At 34, he could seek a new challenge outside Europe. His experience and flexibility will be beneficial. For Real Madrid, this is the end of an era. Long-serving players and coaches are leaving this summer. Fans will see a reformed team in the new season as Real Madrid adapts to life without its loyal players.
