Bayer Leverkusen Agree Deal for Manchester City Talent Farid Alfa-Ruprecht
Bayer Leverkusen will sign Farid Alfa-Ruprecht from Manchester City for £5 million. The 19-year-old winger is returning to Germany after a spell in England. As part of the deal, City will keep a 40 per cent sell-on clause meaning that they will pocket almost half of any future transfer fee.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Alfa-Ruprecht is one of the most gifted players in City‘s academy, having scored 18 goals in 34 games as a winger for City at youth level. He moved from Hamburg in the summer of 2022 but will now return to his homeland of Germany.
Leverkusen are normally active in the transfer market and signed Arda Guler on loan from Real Madrid earlier this month.
WHY THIS DEAL MATTERS
Alfa-Ruprecht was one of City’s most promising youngsters but was a late developer, barely playing above under-23 football at the age of 19. The Blues were always likely to sell the youngster given that he was nowhere near City’s plans.
City’s sell-on percentage means that it will be impossible for Alfa-Ruprecht to move on without them earning a significant fee.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR ALFA-RUPRECHT?
Alfa-Ruprecht will be hoping to break into Leverkusen’s first-team squad but is far more likely to fight for first-team minutes at Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund.
Leverkusen won the Bundesliga last season, which demonstrates their competitiveness in the league and may provide Alfa-Ruprecht with an exciting opportunity to showcase his talents.
