Tottenham Sign Morgan Gibbs-White, Completing Double Transfer Deal
Tottenham Hotspur have signed Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest. Spurs triggered his release clause just hours after signing Mohammed Kudus. The club have spent a combined £115 million on these two players in 24 hours. Tottenham clearly want to challenge at the top next season.
SPURS SEAL GIBBS-WHITE DEAL
Tottenham completed the signing of Morgan Gibbs-White by meeting his £60 million release clause at Nottingham Forest. The 25-year-old attacking midfielder was excellent in the Premier League last season, scoring seven goals and providing 10 assists in 34 games. He helped Forest finish in seventh place and earned England caps under Lee Carsley and Thomas Tuchel. Gibbs-White will undergo a medical before officially joining the squad as Spurs’ second big signing in two days, following the arrival of winger Mohammed Kudus for £55 million.
A previous report confirmed that Tottenham signed Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United and agreed to pay about £60 million.
TOTTENHAM AIM FOR THE TOP
Spurs finished 17th in the Premier League last season, but having won the Europa League, managed Champions League qualification. These signings show that they are trying hard to get back into the best. By adding Gibbs-White’s creativity and Kudus’ attacking drive, Tottenham have improved a squad with talent such as Son Heung-min and James Maddison. Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, will feel the loss as they also sell Anthony Elanga to Newcastle. Forest now face the challenge of rebuilding after back-to-back top-half finishes.
A previous report confirmed that Nottingham Forest finished seventh in the Premier League last season.
LOOKING AHEAD TO THE NEW SEASON
Tottenham’s next game is a pre-season match against Sevilla, followed by their Premier League opener against Burnley, who ended last season as a top-2 team in the Championship and guaranteed automatic qualification to this season’s Premier League. With Gibbs-White and Kudus now on board, Tottenham fans will be hoping the team can finally break into the top four, while Nottingham Forest will need quick reinforcements as they prepare to face Arsenal in their opening match.
Tottenham’s first pre-season friendly is on July 13 against Celtic.
