Crystal Palace Sign Borna Sosa from Ajax as Summer Strengthening Continues

Crystal Palace have signed Borna Sosa from Ajax. The Croatian left-back is their second arrival this summer. Sosa has signed a three-year deal after a successful loan at Torino.

According to a previous report, Borna Sosa accepted personal terms with Crystal Palace.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Sosa, 27, has moved from Ajax to Crystal Palace. He is Palace’s second summer signing after goalkeeper Walter Benitez. Sosa said, “I’m very excited to join Crystal Palace. I’ve heard so many good things about the club. I cannot wait to meet the players, the staff, and all of the fans.” Sosa made 25 appearances for Ajax and spent last season on loan with Torino, where he showcased his attacking skills from left-back.

A previous report confirmed that Crystal Palace and Ajax have agreed on a €4 million transfer fee for Borna Sosa.

WHY THIS SIGNING MATTERS

Sosa brings experience to Palace. He has 26 caps for Croatia and was part of their squad that finished third at the 2022 World Cup. Known for his attacking style and ability to deliver dangerous crosses, Sosa fits manager Oliver Glasner’s system, which values full-backs who join attacks. Palace finished 13th last season in the Premier League with 53 points, and Sosa’s arrival is seen as improving their defense.

A previous report indicates that Crystal Palace finished 12th in the Premier League in the 2024/25 season.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR PALACE AND SOSA?

Palace begin their pre-season against Millwall on July 12 as they prepare for the new Premier League season. Their campaign starts with a trip to Chelsea on August 17. Last season, Chelsea finished 4th, and has qualified for the Champions League. Before that, the Blues will have the Club World Cup final against PSG this weekend. Sosa hopes to settle quickly, play in pre-season and become a regular starter as Palace aim higher in 2025/26.

Crystal Palace is currently awaiting UEFA’s verdict on their Europa League application, which could impact their season.
