RB Leipzig Closing in on Johan Bakayoko Transfer from PSV

RB Leipzig are close to signing Johan Bakayoko from PSV Eindhoven. Talks are moving fast, and the deal is likely to be done this week. The Belgian winger, left out of PSV’s training camp, is set to sign with Leipzig until 2030. The reported fee is around €20 million.

A previous report confirmed that Johan Bakayoko is likely transferring to a Bundesliga team for around €20 million.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Leipzig acted quickly to take Bakayoko away from Bayer Leverkusen, who were close to signing him earlier this summer. The turning point came when Leipzig agreed with the player and PSV. Bakayoko’s absence from PSV’s training camp shows he is leaving soon. Leverkusen and Nottingham Forest, once interested, are now out of the race. Leverkusen have stopped talks completely.

A previous report noted that Johan Bakayoko did not attend PSV Eindhoven’s training on Monday.

BAKAYOKO’S IMPACT AT PSV AND LEIPZIG’S AMBITION

Bakayoko played a significant role in PSV’s recent Dutch league victory, helping them win back-to-back titles. The 22-year-old made 28 appearances, scored 9 goals, and had 1 assist for PSV last season. He is considered one of Europe’s top young wingers. Leipzig, looking to rebuild after finishing 7th last season and missing out on European Football, see Bakayoko as a key player to improve their attack.

A previous report confirmed that Johan Bakayoko scored 9 goals and had 1 assist in 30 games for PSV last season.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR LEIPZIG AND BAKAYOKO?

Bakayoko will have a medical in Leipzig soon and then sign a contract until 2030. Leipzig are getting ready for the new Bundesliga season, starting against newly crowned champions Bayern Munich. The club aims to secure a Champions League spot and fight for the title. Bakayoko is expected to be a big part of this plan. PSV, meanwhile, must find a way to replace Bakayoko as they aim to defend their Dutch league title and prepare for a Champions League qualifier later this month.

A previous report indicated that PSV Eindhoven finished the 2024-25 Eredivisie season as champions.
