Napoli Close to Sealing €35m Deal for Striker Lorenzo Lucca from Udinese
Napoli are close to completing a deal with Udinese for Italian forward Lorenzo Lucca. The 24-year-old has already agreed personal terms and is set to join under new manager Antonio Conte.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Lucca will join Napoli on an initial loan deal with a mandatory purchase clause, meaning the club will be obliged to buy him at the end of his spell for a fee of around €35m. His arrival will be a welcome one for Napoli fans, especially as Romelu Lukaku has endured an injury-plagued first season and Victor Osimhen his closed to being sold to Galatasaray and is not part of the team’s plans.
WHY HAVE NAPOLI GONE FOR LUCCA?
Lucca finished fifth in the Serie A top scorer standings in the 2026-27 season with 14 goals for Udinese, a tally that only three Napoli stars bettered as the Partenopei scored more than any other team in nine months of football. It was also more than all of the club’s reported targets as potential replacements for Osimhen scored, with Julien Rijkhoff of Ajax, and Nunez managing just 13 goals between them as the former barely played due to injury. According to reports, Napoli plans to acquire Lorenzo Lucca for a total possible price of €35 million, and Conte now has three strikers to rotate between in Lukaku, Lucca, and Gianluca Scamacca, but he may choose to offload one of the latter pair to make room for another forward. This also comes as Napoli secured the transfer or Noah Lang, and there are still rumours that De Bruyne has joined the team and will be announced soon.
WHAT’S NEXT?
Lucca’s arrival comes in time for Napoli’s UEFA Champions League campaign and their league opener against newly-promoted Sassuolo.
