AC Milan Abandon Victor Boniface Transfer After Medical Concerns

AC Milan have stopped trying to sign Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface after issues were found in his medical tests. The Nigerian forward is heading back to Germany, ending the deal between the clubs.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Victor Boniface went to Milan for a proposed move that included a loan with a €30 million option to buy. Milan tested the 24-year-old striker’s health on Friday and Saturday. Concerns about his previously injured right knee and other fitness issues made Milan delay the decision. Bayer Leverkusen‘s sporting director, Simon Rolfes, said, “If Boniface comes back to Leverkusen, the AC Milan deal will be over. That’s no big secret.” Boniface is going back to Germany, and Milan confirmed the deal is off because he failed the medical tests.

BIGGER IMPACT ON BOTH TEAMS

The failed transfer means AC Milan need to find a new striker. Milan lost their first 2025/26 Serie A game 2-1 at home to Cremonese and are already three points behind leaders AS Roma and Napoli. Boniface scored 10 goals for Leverkusen last season but missed games due to muscle and knee problems. He was set to be Leverkusen’s third-choice striker behind Patrik Schick and Christian Kofane. The club now has to decide whether to keep him in the team or find another transfer option. Milan, who missed out on Boniface, urgently need alternatives with just a week left in the transfer window.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR MILAN AND LEVERKUSEN?

With the transfer window closing soon, Milan are expected to target at least one other striker before their next Serie A match against Lecce. They are currently fourteenth in the league table, and will want to get their campaign to reach Europe going as soon as possible, and need goals to climb the standings. Leverkusen, meanwhile, lost their Bundesliga opener against Hoffenheim and will want to bounce back as soon as possible after finishing as runner ups last season in the Bundesliga. Their next game is against Werder Bremen, who are trying to get into European spots. Boniface’s future at Leverkusen is uncertain, especially with the club’s main strikers ahead of him and his ongoing injury concerns.
