AC Milan Begin Talks to Sign Adrien Rabiot from Marseille
AC Milan have started talks with Adrien Rabiot’s agents. They want to bring the French player to San Siro. There are no discussions about swapping Ismael Bennacer in this deal.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Adrien Rabiot was placed on the transfer list by Marseille after a dressing room incident, which involved a fight after a defeat to Rennes. Now, many top clubs want him. AC Milan have increased contact with Rabiot’s side to see if a move is possible. Their new coach, Massimiliano Allegri, asked for him specifically. Allegri coached Rabiot at Juventus before, and talks are only happening between Milan and Rabiot’s team. They are not connected to Marseille about Bennacer either. Rabiot’s move is still uncertain, but with only a few days left in the window, Milan are hurrying up.
WHY RABIOT AND WHY NOW?
Rabiot, 30, had a tough year at Marseille, contributing nine goals in 20 league games last season. He was important to coach Roberto De Zerbi before recently being placed on the transfer list. Rabiot signed a contract until 2026, but now it seems like he might leave. Milan wants him because Allegri wants to change the midfield after new arrivals like Luka Modric, Samuele Ricci, and Ardon Jashari. Milan finished eighth in Serie A last season and want to catch up with Inter, Napoli and Juventus, who are slightly ahead this season. Rabiot’s experience in Serie A could help them win the league and qualify for the Champions League.
WHAT NEXT FOR AC MILAN, MARSEILLE, AND RABIOT?
The deal is moving forward, but Milan need agreements with both Rabiot and Marseille before the deadline. They are only dealing with the player right now. Milan’s next game is against another team that should struggle this season, Lecce. Milan lost their opener to Cremonese and will be looking at getting a win as soon as possible to get back into the chase for European spots. Marseille lost a key midfielder, so they want to stabilize after a bad start in Ligue 1. They need reinforcements as they face Lyon, who are a bit ahead in rank. Moving to Milan would bring Rabiot back to Serie A and team him up with Allegri again. This gives him a chance to play an important role in a team challenging for big titles.
