AC Milan Submit Official Bid For Zachary Athekame

AC Milan have made their first offer of the summer transfer window for Swiss right-back Zachary Athekame. They have submitted a €7 million bid to Young Boys and hope to sign the 20-year-old defender.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Young Boys emerged as AC Milan‘s preferred destination after exploring multiple options for the right-back role. The decision prompted an official bid to be submitted to the Swiss club. There remains a gap in valuations of around €3-4 million, as the Young Club want €10-12 million fixed base fee. However, talks were relaxed because Athekame himself gave an eager indication to join Milan and the clubs will negotiate further in the coming days.

AC MILAN’S SUMMER STRATEGY

Allegri’s side have emerged as a force to be reckoned with in Italy and Europe, but last year finished in 8th place and will be without European football for the season. They are preparing for the Serie A with the immediate goal of qualifying for European competitions again. AC Milan finished eighth last season and missed out on European competition, which makes their summer strategy particularly critical as they aim to qualify for European football as soon as possible.

WHAT NEXT?

Young Boys have been handed a blow in their bid to sign a new winger this summer. The Swiss side are looking to bolster their frontline after the permanent acquisition of Felipe Anderson from Lazio in January. However, their hopes of doing so have seemingly been dealt a blow. Milan’s sporting project is understood to have been crucial to the former RB Leipzig man’s head being turned, and Athekame is potentially set to join as well.
