Al Hilal Move Closer to Signing Liverpool Striker Darwin Núñez
Al Hilal are close to signing Liverpool’s Darwin Núñez. They have been in contact with Núñez’s representatives to reach an agreement on personal terms, and they have officially presented an offer as talks advance for Núñez’s transfer.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Darwin Núñez has approved a move to Al Hilal if the two clubs can agree on a deal. The club has had positive talks with player representatives and are near a verbal agreement for Núñez’s contract. Al Hilal turned to Núñez after failing to sign Victor Osimhen. The Saudi runner-ups have made Núñez their top transfer target and are in advanced talks to acquire the striker from Liverpool following their pursuit. Liverpool are seeking what they paid for Núñez in 2022, around $115 million. If the deal becomes official, it will be one of the biggest of the summer, following an influx of stars to Saudi Arabia.
LIVERPOOL AND AL HILAL: CURRENT PERFORMANCE
Under coach Arne Slot, Liverpool finished the season as winners, 10 points ahead of 2nd place Arsenal. Despite appearing 57 times in all competitions last season, Núñez scored just 11 goals and provided 7 assists, failing to keep down a consistent starting role during the campaign. Recently, he has lost out in the pecking order to Hugo Ekitike. Al Hilal are the runner-ups in Saudi Arabia and finished last season only behind Al Ittihad. They reached the AFC Champions League final last campaign and are one of the strongest sides on the continent.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR BOTH CLUBS?
Al Hilal begin their new Saudi Pro League season against Al Wehda. They are hoping to have their new striker signed before that match. Liverpool host Bournemouth in their next Premier League outing. They aim to cash in on Núñez to strengthen their squad for the upcoming campaign.
