Al Nassr in Talks to Extend Cristiano Ronaldo’s Contract Amid Uncertain Future
Al Nassr’s director, Fernando Hierro, said the club is still negotiating with Cristiano Ronaldo about a new contract. Both sides are trying to find a way for the Portuguese star to stay in Saudi Arabia after summer 2025.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Ronaldo‘s contract ends on June 30, 2025. Al Nassr has offered him a new contract with a reported 52% salary cut. His yearly pay would drop from €200 million to €96 million. To make it more appealing, Al Nassr is offering Ronaldo a 5% ownership stake in the club and investment chances in Saudi Arabia. The talks continue, but Ronaldo hasn’t agreed to the deal yet. It’s rumored that Al Hilal has an agreement with him, but nothing official is confirmed.
RONALDO AND AL NASSR’S SEASON
Since Ronaldo joined in January 2023, he has scored 99 goals in 111 matches and was the top scorer in the Saudi Pro League this season. Unfortunately, even with his great performances, Al Nassr finished third for the 2024-25 season and didn’t qualify for next year’s AFC Champions League. The club’s trophy drought goes on, and they feel pressure to keep their star player.
WHAT NEXT FOR RONALDO AND AL NASSR?
Now 40 years old, Ronaldo has many choices. He could accept Al Nassr’s lower offer with new business deals, or he could join rival team Al Hilal, who will play in the FIFA Club World Cup. He could also look outside Saudi Arabia for a new adventure. Al Nassr’s future games will depend on summer team changes and practice matches. The Saudi Pro League season just ended. Both Ronaldo and Al Nassr face a tense wait to see where the iconic player will play next season.
