Alexander Isak Joins Liverpool in Premier League Record Transfer

Liverpool have signed Alexander Isak from Newcastle United for a British-record £125 million. Isak has penned a contract until 2031, making him the most expensive player in the history of English football, as confirmed by a recent report.

WHAT HAPPENED?

After weeks of speculation and tense negotiations, Liverpool have finally agreed a deal with the Magpies for their prime summer target Alexander Isak. The Swedish international had skipped pre-season preparations with the Newcastle first-team as he was reportedly unhappy with the broken promises by Newcastle owners regarding their future ambitions. Liverpool took advantage of the situation and swooped in to agree a £125 million package for Isak, who underwent his medical on Friday ahead of the deadline. His move to Anfield has broken the previous transfer record of the Premier League, according to reports.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

After sealing the Premier League title at the end of last season, defending champions Liverpool are on a mission to retain their crown under the tutelage of Arne Slot, amid intense competition from the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal. The Reds have made an unbeaten start to the campaign and currently sit top of the league with 9 points from three matches, 2 above Chelsea in second.

WHAT NEXT FOR LIVERPOOL?

Slot’s side will resume their Premier League journey after the international break, when they play relegation contenders Burnley, before playing Atletico de Madrid at home for their first match of the Champions League campaign.
