Andre Onana Completes Loan Move to Trabzonspor From Manchester United

Andre Onana has officially joined Turkish side Trabzonspor on a season-long loan from Manchester United. All documents have been signed, confirming the move with no option to buy. Recently, it was reported that Trabzonspor is ready to match and improve André Onana’s salary by including bonuses and a signing fee, as part of the deal .

WHAT HAPPENED?

The transfer sees Onana leave Old Trafford after falling to third choice under new manager Ruben Amorim. The arrival of Senne Lammens pushed Onana further down the goalkeeper list, with Altay Bayındır starting United‘s first three games of the season. The Turkish transfer window closes on September 12, but Trabzonspor wanted Onana signed quickly. He is expected to travel to Türkiye next week and could make his debut just two days after the deadline.

UNITED’S SEASON TO DATE

Manchester United have started the 2025/26 Premier League season slowly, currently sitting seventh with four points from three matches. Their goalkeeping situation changed rapidly after Onana’s costly errors against Lyon in last year’s Europa League. Altay Bayındır has started all league games so far, while Senne Lammens is tipped as the new first choice. Their next match is away at Manchester City, who are currently 10th and looking to escape the relegation spots having won only three points from three matches. As of now, Manchester United has indeed given their starting job to Altay Bayındır, leaving Onana out of action .

TRABZONSPOR’S OUTLOOK AND NEXT MATCH

Trabzonspor finished seventh last season and are aiming for a return to the UEFA Champions League. They have collected ten points from their first four matches this season, currently sitting second in the Turkish Super Lig and just two points behind the leaders, Galatasaray. The team faces Gaziantep next, who are tenth with six points. Onana’s arrival is expected to boost Trabzonspor’s defense and help them challenge for the title, especially as they are looking to shore up their defense and keep up the pressure in the title race .

WHAT NEXT FOR ONANA?

This move offers Onana the chance to be a regular starter again and rebuild his confidence after a difficult period in Manchester. With three years left on his United contract, Onana could attract interest for a permanent move next summer if he performs well in Turkey. For both player and club, this loan is a fresh start and a chance to reestablish themselves domestically and in European competitions.
