André Onana Takes First Photos as Trabzonspor Player

André Onana has taken his first official picture as a Trabzonspor player, marking the start of his new adventure in Turkey following his move from Manchester United.

ONANA ARRIVES IN TURKEY

The Cameroon international has arrived in Trabzon, accompanied by his family and representatives. Onana reached an agreement to join Trabzonspor on a season-long loan from Manchester United, offering him the chance to be a regular starter again after struggling for game time at Old Trafford. The move comes after he missed out on United’s latest Premier League fixtures and found himself behind Altay Bayındır and new signing Senne Lammens in the club’s pecking order. Onana’s contract with Manchester United runs until 2028, but he will spend this season with Trabzonspor before an expected return to England next summer. The deal for his loan is expected to be finalized before the Turkish transfer window closes on September 12, 2025, as reported in various updates.

MIXED SPELL AT UNITED LEADS TO NEW START

Onana joined Manchester United in 2023 from Inter Milan in a transfer worth nearly £44 million, with big expectations after his Champions League run with Inter. However, the last two years at United were turbulent. He started as first-choice goalkeeper but struggled with form and consistency. His last appearance came in a disappointing League Cup exit against Grimsby Town, where he made only one appearance and lost that match. This season, Onana was left out of United’s matchday squad for three consecutive Premier League games, signaling a change in the club’s goalkeeper hierarchy. Growing competition and a lack of opportunities drove his decision to move to Turkey and restart his career.

TRABZONSPOR’S SEASON AND ONANA’S NEW CHALLENGE

Trabzonspor are looking to recover from a slow start in the 2025-26 Turkish Süper Lig season, currently sitting second in the standings after four matches, two points behind leaders Galatasaray. However, the latest standings reveal that Trabzonspor is actually performing better than initially stated, as they are currently second in the league with 10 points from four games. The club is hoping Onana’s experience will stabilize their defense. Their next match is at home against Gaziantep, who sit just two places below them in ninth. A victory could close the gap with the league’s top four and boost their ambitions in both league and cup this season.
