Andrea Natali Joins AZ Alkmaar on Season-Long Loan from Bayer Leverkusen
AZ Alkmaar have signed young Italian defender Andrea Natali on loan from Bayer Leverkusen. The paperwork is done, and the transfer is now official, allowing him to spend the 2025-26 season with the Dutch club according to reports.
WHAT DOES THE DEAL MEAN FOR AZ?
Andrea Natali‘s arrival adds much-needed depth to AZ‘s defense. The 21-year-old struggled for regular game time at Bayer Leverkusen last season, making only six Bundesliga appearances. Leverkusen finished second last season, securing Champions League football as confirmed. AZ will hope that Natali can stabilize a back line that conceded 37 goals last season.
BUILDING FOR THE UPCOMING SEASON
AZ finished fifth in the Eredivisie last season, missing out on European football for this season. They want to secure a higher finish this year to return to European competition. AZ are currently sixth in the league after three games, with seven points, but one less match than most teams ahead of them except for Feyenoord who have nine points from also three matches. Their next match is against Heracles, who are dead last and yet to win a point this season.
NATALI’S CHALLENGE AND WHAT TO WATCH NEXT
Andrea Natali will use this loan as an opportunity to prove himself in a new league. AZ will hope that the defender can quickly integrate into the side and help them climb the Eredivisie standings. As Natali adjusts, coaches and fans will watch to see if he can earn a regular starting role. Bayer Leverkusen will also monitor his progress, hoping that regular minutes will aid his development before he returns next summer.
