Anfernee Dijksteel Joins Kocaelispor on Two-Year Deal

Anfernee Dijksteel has joined Kocaelispor in Turkey after leaving Middlesbrough. The defender signed a two-year deal, with an option for another year, as confirmed by reports.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Kocaelispor announced they signed Dijksteel for free after he left Middlesbrough last season. The 28-year-old right-back chose Turkey over offers from several Championship clubs in England. He fits into Kocaelispor’s plans to improve their defense for the new Turkish Super Lig season.

WHY DIJKSTEEL LEFT ENGLAND

Dijksteel spent five seasons with Middlesbrough, playing in over 120 games. Last season, he appeared in 18 Championship matches, but Middlesbrough finished in the middle of the table, missing promotion play-offs. When his contract wasn’t renewed, Dijksteel attracted interest from English clubs, but he chose Kocaelispor for a new experience and more playing time.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR KOCAELISPOR AND DIJKSTEEL?

Kocaelispor is gearing up for the 2025-26 Turkish Super Lig season after finishing 12th last year, six points above the relegation zone. Their first match is against Bandırmaspor, as they aim for promotion to the Süper Lig this season. Dijksteel is expected to compete for a starting role as Kocaelispor aims to close the gap to the top-half of the table. Fans will watch closely how he adapts to Turkish football and strengthens the defense.
