Ange Postecoglou in the Frame for Bayer Leverkusen and Fenerbahçe Manager Roles

Two major European clubs, Bayer Leverkusen and Fenerbahçe, are considering Ange Postecoglou as a candidate for their head coach positions. This is happening due to recent changes in their management staff.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Bayer Leverkusen decided to part ways with Erik ten Hag after the team started their Bundesliga campaign poorly, as confirmed by reports regarding his contract termination. The club had made several new signings in the summer, including players like Jarell Quansah, Loïc Bade, and Lucas Vázquez, among others. Despite losing some key players, Leverkusen has heavily invested in its attack, and now they are looking for a manager who can quickly bring these new additions together as a team. Postecoglou has emerged as a strong candidate; however, his high salary demands could be an issue. Lucien Favre and Marco Rose are also being considered. Meanwhile, Turkish giants Fenerbahçe are also interested in Postecoglou as they look for a new manager.

LOOKING AT THE SEASON SO FAR

Bayer Leverkusen currently has one point from two Bundesliga matches, having started their 2025/26 season with a mixed record. They are struggling to find consistency after losing some key players. While their new signings have shown promise, the team is still searching for cohesion. Leverkusen finds themselves in the lower half of the Bundesliga standings, several points behind the top four and just above the relegation places. Fenerbahçe, who finished second in the Turkish Süper Lig last season and are aiming to win the title, have started their campaign in a shaky manner as well, putting pressure on their management to turn things around quickly. Leverkusen’s next match will be against Eintracht Frankfurt, while Fenerbahçe are set to lock horns with Gençlerbirliği in two key clashes that could shape their season.

WHAT COMES NEXT FOR POSTECOGLOU?

Ange Postecoglou’s attacking style and ability to build winning teams quickly makes him a strong candidate for both clubs. However, his demands for a high salary, along with the challenges of working with new squads, could be obstacles. Both Leverkusen and Fenerbahçe need quick solutions in the midst of pressure from poor results and fan expectations. If either club can manage to convince Postecoglou to take the helm, they might be able to turn around their form and climb up the league table. A decision on Postecoglou’s future is expected soon as both clubs intensify their manager search.
