Ansu Fati Set to Join AS Monaco in Loan Move from Barcelona
Barcelona forward Ansu Fati is set to move to AS Monaco on loan, with clubs agreeing on a season-long deal including a buy option. Barcelona president Joan Laporta has confirmed, if the process proceeds smoothly, the 22-year-old will soon join Monaco, a move that may rekindle his career amid struggles at his hometown club.
He has signed a contract that runs until 2028.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Fati is scheduled for a medical following the completion of negotiations with Monaco. His playing time under new coach Hansi Flick decreased significantly, resulting in just 11 appearances last season, subsequent to a barren loan term at Brighton with four goals in 27 matches. Despite the move postponing his Barcelona deal to up to 2028, the club will continue to pay half of his salary during the loan. However, Monaco can choose to purchase him next summer. Completion of the move is anticipated this week, allowing him to join the preseason on Saturday, potentially with their new signing Paul Pogba[2-6].
MONACO’S AMBITIONS AND FATI’S OPPORTUNITY
With their Champions League qualification secured in Ligue 1, Monaco are pursuing a summer overhaul of the squad, under coach Adi Hütter, who believes Fati can revive his career at the Ligue 1 side as they have also secured Eric Dier and Paul Pogba for next season.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR BOTH CLUBS?
With the preason resuming on Monday, Monaco will unveil their new star signing this week while Barcelona will intensify their effort to reduce their squad size with Pablo Torre likely to join Fati in the departures list.
