Arnau Tenas Completes Transfer From PSG to Villarreal
Arnau Tenas is moving to Villarreal from Paris Saint-Germain. Both clubs have signed the needed documents. The Spanish goalkeeper will arrive in Castellón this week. Villarreal will pay €6 million for him. He signed a contract until June 2029.
WHAT HAPPENED?
PSG and Villarreal completed the paperwork after both teams agreed on the transfer. Originally, PSG and Villarreal talked about a loan deal. They eventually settled on a permanent move. Tenas joined PSG from FC Barcelona in 2023. At age 24, he was the third-choice goalkeeper in Paris. He barely played there, featuring mostly in cup games. He wanted more regular playing time, so he pushed for a move. Tenas underwent medical examinations in Villarreal on Wednesday before signing his official contract.
WHY THIS MOVE MATTERS
Villarreal have been impressive this season and are at the top of La Liga. They have a strong defence but needed a goalkeeper with potential and experience at the top level. Tenas fits both criteria. Villarreal hope he can grow into an important player. PSG, meanwhile, have Chevallier as the clear number one as Gianluigi Donnarumma is expected to leave the team before the close of the window. As confirmed in previous reports, Tenas became surplus to needs with PSG planning to reinvest in their squad following recent transfers. The move gives Tenas a chance to play regularly for one of the best teams in Spain.
WHAT COMES NEXT?
Arnau Tenas finished his medical tests on Wednesday. He signed his contract in the evening. Villarreal next face Celta de Vigo, who are bottom in La Liga. Villarreal are level on points with Real Madrid and Barcelona, the three only teams with a winning start of the season. This is an important fixture as it could keep Villarreal’s presence at the top. PSG, who are European champions, face Toulouse in a Ligue 1 tie while sitting comfortably at the summit. PSG is currently first in Ligue 1 this season, but have won both their matches by the minimum margin. Tenas will fight for the starting spot at Villarreal and could debut as soon as possible once he completes all required paperwork and registration.
