Arsenal Close In On €52m Deal For Piero Hincapié

Arsenal are close to signing Piero Hincapié from Bayer Leverkusen. The total deal is worth €52 million. The Ecuadorian defender will join on loan first, with a permanent move planned later. The club has reached an agreement, and Hincapié will soon have his medical examination. According to reports, Arsenal wants to secure Piero Hincapié on loan with an obligation to buy.

DETAILS OF THE AGREEMENT

The club will pay €6 million to loan Hincapié for this season. A mandatory purchase option worth €46 million will be triggered in 2026. This allows Arsenal to add a defender without exceeding their budget. Both sides quickly agreed on personal terms, with Hincapié agreeing personal terms with Arsenal and keen to move to London.

IMPACT ON SQUAD AND SEASON SO FAR

Arsenal were beaten to last season’s Premier League title by Liverpool, who won by ten points. The Gunners were busy this summer, selling Jakub Kiwior and bringing in Cristhian Mosquera before they moved for Hincapié. Hincapié was a key player for Leverkusen last season, when he made 38 appearances across competitions, featuring at centre-back and left-back. Arsenal have taken six points from two matches so far this season and are currently in third place in the Premier League, level on points with Tottenham and Liverpool.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR ARSENAL AND HINCAPIE?

Hincapié is expected to arrive in London for his Arsenal medical in the coming days. If he signs his contract in time, he could feature for his new team in their next match against Liverpool. Arsenal will be hoping Hincapié can play against Liverpool, as they try to create a gap between them and last season’s champions.
