Arsenal Closing In on Viktor Gyökeres Signing After Breakthrough Talks

Arsenal are getting closer to signing Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP. The striker did not return for pre-season training with his current club and is now focused on joining the Premier League team.

According to a previous report, Gyökeres refuses to play or train for Sporting CP.

BREAKTHROUGH IN TALKS

After more discussions, Arsenal and Sporting CP are near a deal for Gyökeres, who scored 54 goals last season. He’s expected to sign a five-year contract with Arsenal. Arsenal’s sporting director Andrea Berta has been in Lisbon to finalize the deal, which is believed to be €60 million plus €10 million in add-ons. Gyökeres is keen to move to England, skipping Sporting’s pre-season.

A previous report confirmed that Sporting CP demands more than €60 million, rejecting offers of €60 million plus €10 million in add-ons.

WHY ARSENAL WANT GYÖKERES

Arsenal were second in the Premier League last season, just behind Liverpool. Many think Mikel Arteta’s team needs a top center-forward. Gyökeres will join new signings Martin Zubimendi and Kepa Arrizabalaga. Sporting, who won the Portuguese league last year, now need to find a replacement for their key player.

Arsenal finished second in the Premier League during the 2024-25 season.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

With talks moving quickly, Arsenal want Gyökeres to join them for their pre-season tour in Asia. Arteta wants his new striker to adapt fast. Arsenal’s first Premier League game is against Manchester United, and they want to challenge Manchester City. Meanwhile, Sporting must find a way to rebuild their attack soon.

Sporting CP expect Viktor Gyökeres to leave, as they are pursuing Luis Javier Suárez as a replacement.
