Arteta Confirms Arsenal Want to Extend Partey’s Stay at Emirates

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta wants midfielder Thomas Partey to sign a new contract. He praised the Ghanaian’s importance to the team this season.

WHAT HAPPENED?

In a press conference, Arteta said he wants Partey to stay beyond his current deal. It ends in June 2025. Arteta said, “Yes, I’d like Thomas Partey to stay and sign a new deal.” Arteta highlighted Partey’s consistency, calling it his best season. Reports say Partey’s agent is in London to discuss an extension with Arsenal‘s sporting director Andrea Berta.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Partey has had a strong season, playing in 32 Premier League games and scoring four goals. This is a big improvement from past injury-plagued seasons. The 31-year-old midfielder has drawn interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia, Juventus, Barcelona, and his former club Atletico Madrid. However, sources say he prefers to stay at Arsenal. The club could offer a deal that extends his contract until 2027.

Arsenal is second in the Premier League table, two points behind Manchester City with two games left. Partey’s experience and intelligence have been key in Arsenal’s title fight and their run to the Champions League quarter-finals.

WHAT NEXT FOR ARSENAL AND PARTEY?

Talks between Arsenal and Partey’s agents are heating up. Both sides are hopeful for a deal. Arsenal may want to lower Partey’s weekly wage from over $250,000, but both sides want to continue the relationship. Arsenal’s last two league games against Everton and Newcastle are key to their title hopes. Partey is expected to play a big role.

Arsenal is also looking to sign Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi in the summer. But Arteta’s comments suggest Partey is still important to his plans. With Champions League football secured for next season, Arsenal needs depth and experience in midfield.
