Arthur Cabral set for Botafogo switch in Club World Cup boost

Arthur Cabral is leaving Benfica for Botafogo in a €15 million move. The striker will join his new team in time for the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Botafogo and Benfica have agreed on Arthur Cabral‘s transfer. The Brazilian forward moves for €15 million, with Benfica keeping 10% of future profit. Both clubs are completing the paperwork. Botafogo wants Cabral in the U.S. quickly to strengthen their squad for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, facing top clubs worldwide.

CLUBS’ RECENT FORM AND SEASON CONTEXT

Cabral, 27, played regularly for Benfica since joining from Fiorentina, but had limited game time in the 2024-25 season as Benfica competed for trophies domestically and internationally. Benfica will miss his attacking presence, but the €15m fee provides funds for new players. Botafogo were ambitious in 2025, near the top of the Brasileirão table and aiming for Club World Cup success. Their next Campeonato Brasileiro Série A against Grêmio sees Botafogo in second, two points behind leaders Palmeiras and three ahead of Flamengo.

WHAT COMES NEXT?

Cabral will join Botafogo in the U.S. once the transfer is completed, enhancing their attack for the Club World Cup. His arrival could be crucial as Botafogo faces Boca Juniors in the group stage, aiming for the knockout rounds. Meanwhile, Benfica needs to fill the gap left by Cabral quickly as they continue their domestic campaign and build for the next season.
