Arthur Vermeeren Set to Join Olympique Marseille on Loan from RB Leipzig

Olympique Marseille are close to signing Belgian midfielder Arthur Vermeeren from RB Leipzig. They plan to bring him in on loan, with an option to buy later for €20 million. This move aims to strengthen Marseille’s midfield, especially with uncertainty surrounding Adrien Rabiot’s future. Reports confirmed that both Rabiot and Jonathan Rowe are available for transfer.

WHAT THE DEAL LOOKS LIKE

Marseille will pay a €1.5 million loan fee and cover Vermeeren‘s salary during the loan. The €20 million buy option is not mandatory, meaning Marseille can choose to sign him permanently next summer. Vermeeren is expected in Marseille soon to complete his medical checks and finalize the details.

WHY MARSEILLE ARE SIGNING VERMEEREN

Marseille need more midfield options due to possible player departures and conflicts, including a recent issue with Adrien Rabiot. Vermeeren, a Belgian international, played 39 matches for Leipzig last season, contributing two assists and demonstrating strong technical skills. His versatility and vision make him appealing. Following a mixed start to the Ligue 1 season, Marseille have intensified their recruitment efforts, looking to improve after finishing second in Ligue 1 last season, just behind PSG. Their next match is against Lyon, who are top of the table so far. Marseille are 5th, three points behind and will want to delete the gap this weekend.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR THE FUTURE

If Vermeeren performs well, Marseille could buy him for €20 million, making the move permanent. His arrival might also help cover if more midfield players leave. For Vermeeren, this is a chance to prove himself in a top league after losing his starting spot at Leipzig. Marseille want to build momentum in upcoming games to secure a top-four finish and a spot in the Champions League. They face key matches against direct rivals soon.
