AS Monaco Determined To Keep Thilo Kehrer Amid AC Milan Interest
AS Monaco have refused a bid from AC Milan for defender Thilo Kehrer late in the summer transfer window and intend to keep the German international as a key part of their squad.
WHAT HAPPENED?
AC Milan tried to sign Thilo Kehrer in the closing days of the window, but Monaco rebuffed their advances. However, Monaco rejected the move outright, with Chelsea either unwilling or unable to sanction Disasi’s arrival at Stamford Bridge at such a late stage in the window.
MONACO’S DEFENSIVE STRENGTH
Kehrer joined from West Ham United in 2024, first on loan before signing permanently at Stade Louis II for €11 million (£9.7m/$11.8m). He played 17 matches (14 starts) last season as Monaco finished third in Ligue 1 and aims to secure a top-three finish this campaign, recording five clean sheets in his 14 starts. Kehrer recorded a 93% tackle success rate during the league season as a key part of a Monaco defence that conceded just 25 goals in 36 matches. Against Lille, Kehrer ensured Monaco recorded a clean sheet to avoid slipping to defeat against a perennial title rival.
WHAT NEXT FOR MONACO & KEHRER?
Monaco’s next match is against Auxerre in Ligue 1. They stand in fourth place with six points from three matches, having beaten Strasbourg last match with a 96th minute goal versus another team that is aiming the Champions League spots. After facing Auxerre in two weeks, the team will open their Champions League campaign against Club Brugge before facing teams such as Juventus, Real Madrid, Manchester City and Tottenham. Monaco aims for Champions League qualification again this year, presenting another chance for Kehrer to impress, as AC Milan lick their wounds at a failed last-ditch attempt to sign the defender.
