AS Monaco Reach Agreement With Lukáš Hrádecký For Goalkeeper Role

AS Monaco have agreed personal terms with Finnish goalkeeper Lukáš Hrádecký. They’re close to bringing the experienced player from Bayer Leverkusen. Next, the clubs need to agree on a transfer fee, as discussions continue.

PERSONAL TERMS AGREED WITH HRÁDECKÝ

Lukáš Hrádecký, 35, is the captain of Bayer Leverkusen and is about to join Monaco. He’s been with Leverkusen since 2018, appearing in 286 matches and contributing to significant successes. This includes winning the Bundesliga and German Cup in 2023-24. Monaco is now negotiating with Leverkusen to finalize details and officially sign Hrádecký as their goalkeeper.

WHAT IT MEANS FOR BOTH CLUBS

Monaco finished third in Ligue 1 last season and will play in the Champions League qualifying rounds. Their first-choice goalkeeper, Radoslaw Majecki, had a good season, but adding a veteran like Hrádecký would bolster their defense. For Leverkusen, the arrival of Mark Flekken from Brentford meant Hrádecký faced more competition for the starting role. Leverkusen are entering a new phase after a historic 2023-24 season. They finished top of the Bundesliga, unbeaten at home, and are now considering new players and strategies for the upcoming season. Last season, they have finished 2nd behind Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, and current coach Erik Ten Hag has had to deal with essential players leaving like Florian Wirtz and Frimpong to Liverpool.

WHAT COMES NEXT?

The clubs are expected to continue talks, with Monaco eager to finalize the deal before their Champions League qualifier against Rapid Vienna next week. Monaco aims to bridge the gap to the Ligue 1 top two, having finished four points behind Marseille last season who were 2nd behind champions PSG. Meanwhile, Leverkusen will look for a new backup or starting goalkeeper to complement Flekken as they begin their Bundesliga title chase against Wolfsburg before playing Bayern Munich in the 2nd matchday. The result of this transfer could affect both teams’ starts to the new season.
