AS Monaco Sign Danish Teenager Ekene Chukwuani After Record Season

AS Monaco have announced the signing of 16-year-old forward Ekene Russel Chukwuani. He is a highly rated Denmark U17 international and joins from Brøndby IF after an impressive goal-scoring season.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Monaco signed Chukwuani after his outstanding year at Brøndby’s U17 team, where he scored 28 goals in 25 matches. The club agreed to a three-year contract with the young forward and paid a transfer fee of around €2 million. Chukwuani, who has both Danish and Nigerian nationality, will initially join Monaco’s Groupe Élite youth squad to continue his development. The transfer was arranged by representatives from Team Raiola.

WHY MONACO MADE THIS MOVE

Monaco’s decision to sign him aligns with the club’s strategy to invest in young talents after they finished third in Ligue 1 last season, just behind champions Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille. A report confirmed that they aim to secure a top-three finish this campaign, and Chukwuani’s stats from last season made him one of Europe’s top teenage prospects. He also impressed at youth international level for Denmark, highlighting his potential.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR CHUKWUANI AND MONACO

For Chukwuani, the immediate focus will be on settling in France and earning a regular spot in Monaco’s elite youth team. The ultimate goal is to break into the senior squad in the coming seasons. Monaco will face Auxerre in their next Ligue 1 match and are currently positioned fourth with six points from three matches. They hope their newest signings, including Chukwuani, will strengthen the club’s future as they aim for both domestic and European success.
