Atlético Madrid Closing In on Giacomo Raspadori Signing
Atlético Madrid is close to signing Napoli’s striker Giacomo Raspadori. They have made an official offer and agreed on personal terms with him.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Atlético Madrid offered Napoli €25 million plus bonuses for Raspadori, making the total fee about €30 million. The clubs are now finalizing the payment details. Raspadori has accepted the move and agreed to Atlético’s contract. The transfer should be finalized soon with only minor details left to resolve.
RASPADORI’S SEASON AND WHY ATLÉTICO WANT HIM
Raspadori played 26 Serie A games for Napoli last season, scoring six goals and getting one assist. His playing time was limited, just under 1,100 minutes, as new players joined Antonio Conte’s squad. Napoli won the Scudetto last season, but Raspadori mainly played a supporting role. His versatile and technical skills have caught Atlético coach Diego Simeone’s eye. Simeone believes Raspadori can strengthen the team for the upcoming season.
WHAT COMES NEXT
With Raspadori set to join, he will become Atlético Madrid’s second major signing from Serie A this summer, after left-back Matteo Ruggeri from Atalanta. Atlético aims to improve their La Liga performance, where they finished third, and will compete in the Champions League again. They will play their first league match against Elche, who was promoted from La Liga 2 last season. Atlético trailed last year’s champions Barcelona by twelve points. Raspadori is expected to be integrated quickly, as the team prepares to compete in multiple competitions this season.
