WHAT HAPPENED?
Barcelona extended their lead at the top of La Liga after they were held to a draw against Betis, at home. Although the result was not what the team was expecting, it capitalised on Real Madrid’s defeat at home against Valencia for the first time in 17 years. Barça now has 4 points advantage to Real Madrid, with 8 matches left to play in La Liga.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
The Catalan giants have been enjoying a strong season, where they have won the Spanish Supercopa, are leading the La Liga, are in the Copa del Rey Final and will face Dortmund for the first leg of the Champions League Quarter-finals. The dreams of winning 4 titles in one season are still well alive for the Blaugrana. Despite opening the score with a goal by Gavi in the 7th minute, Barça conceded the draw just 10 minutes after, and despite the superiority, was unable to capitalise the chances to get on the lead again.
WHAT NEXT FOR BARCELONA?
Barcelona’s next challenge will be at home against Dortmund for the first leg of the Quarter-finals of the Champions League. After that, they visit Leganes for La Liga, where they will try to maintain the distance, or, ideally, increase it to 2nd place Real Madrid.
