Barcelona Secure Lamine Yamal’s Future With Long-Term Contract Until 2031

Barcelona’s young star Lamine Yamal has signed a long-term deal with the club. The 17-year-old committed to stay until June 2031, securing a bright future for Barca.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Lamine Yamal went to Barcelona‘s offices on Tuesday to sign his contract extension. He will stay at Camp Nou for the next six years. The deal was signed after a meeting between Barcelona and Yamal’s agent, Jorge Mendes. The club highlighted his importance by sending its president, Joan Laporta, first vice president Rafa Yusta, and sporting director, Deco.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

This extension represents a major achievement for Barcelona. Yamal has been spectacular this season, scoring 18 goals and 25 assists in 55 appearances across all competitions. His performances were key to Barcelona’s domestic treble this season, winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup under coach Hansi Flick.

Yamal’s breakthrough has been key in their success, especially in games like the Champions League semifinal against Inter Milan and the title-deciding Clásico against Real Madrid.

YAMAL’S REMARKABLE RISE

Since making his first-team debut in April 2023, Yamal has shattered numerous records. He’s become the youngest ever goalscorer in La Liga, Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup. Having joined Barcelona’s academy as a 7-year-old, the Mataró-native already has more than 100 first-team appearances at just 17 years old.

Yamal’s partnership with Jules Kounde down Barcelona’s right flank has been excellent this season. His ability to both create and score goals has made him invaluable.

WHAT NEXT FOR BARCELONA?

Barcelona will try to build around Yamal as they plan for next season. Reports suggest he will get the prestigious number 10 shirt, with current holder Ansu Fati heading out on loan. While Barcelona have wrapped up their domestic campaign, they will now focus on the UEFA Nations League Final Four, where Yamal is expected to represent Spain.

Barcelona’s next challenge will be their Champions League campaign. With Yamal committed long-term, they have a foundation for achieving dominance in Europe.
