Barcelona to Extend Szczesny’s Stay Until 2027

Barcelona plan to keep Wojciech Szczesny for at least two more seasons. He has reached an agreement to extend his contract until June 2027. The deal was verbally agreed weeks ago and will be final once the paperwork is done.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Wojciech Szczesny joined Barcelona in October 2024. He was a cover for the injured Marc-André ter Stegen. The 35-year-old keeper made 30 appearances and kept 14 clean sheets last season. He played a vital role in Barcelona’s domestic title wins, which include La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Supercopa de España. Szczesny’s leadership and experience have been major boosts for the squad. Now he has agreed to extend his stay by two more years.

BARCELONA’S GOALKEEPING PLAN

This extension confirms Szczesny’s position in a two-man goalkeeping team alongside Joan García for the 2025-26 campaign. The 22-year-old García has moved to Barcelona from Espanyol. He is set to become Barcelona’s new number one in the goal and is part of the club’s major leadership transition. But in the past season, Szczesny played the ninth most minutes among all outfield players and will continue to be valued at the club.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR SZCZESNY AND BARCELONA?

With Szczesny’s contract extension now imminent, he will soon return to action. Barcelona will kick off the 2025-26 campaign with high expectations after winning the La Liga title last season. They will also have eyes on European success in the next term. Barcelona’s first match in La Liga is against Real Betis, a side that finished just four points behind them in the table. With Szczesny set to stay, Barcelona will hope for stability in the goal.
