Bayer Leverkusen Stand Firm: No Sale For Hincapié Amid Premier League Interest

Bayer Leverkusen won’t sell Piero Hincapié this summer, despite interest from several Premier League teams.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Chelsea and other Premier League clubs want Hincapié because of defensive issues. Chelsea’s Levi Colwill is injured, so they need a replacement. Hincapié, 23, impressed as Leverkusen‘s regular starter and played when the team visited Stamford Bridge.

Leverkusen see Hincapié as a key player and won’t negotiate for his release this summer. He is contracted until 2029. Any deal needs to meet his €70 million release clause because the club aims to keep him in their starting lineup.

BAYER LEVERKUSEN’S AMBITIONS

Leverkusen are the defending Bundesliga champions. Hincapié helped the team secure their first league title the previous season, before finishing 2nd last time around. He played 31 league games last season helped Bayer finish 2nd, 13 points behind Bayern Munich. Bayer Leverkusen aim to improve on last season’s Bundesliga campaign after finishing as runner-ups behind Bayern.

For 2025/26, Leverkusen aim to retain their title and advance in the Champions League. The club has already sold several stars and don’t want to weaken further. With Xabi Alonso gone, new coach Erik ten Hag views Hincapié’s youth, speed, and experience as the team’s backbone.

LOOKING AHEAD: FIXTURES AND IMPLICATIONS

Leverkusen start their Bundesliga campaign against Hoffenheim, who battled against relegation last season, ultimately managing to stay in the Bundesliga. Leverkusen need a winning start to remain at the top. Bayern Munich play RB Leipzig as both teams try to have a strong start to their campaigns.

Hincapié is trusted to start the opening match for Leverkusen. While the club aims to compete domestically and in Europe, Chelsea and other clubs must look elsewhere for reinforcements. The transfer window is still open for a few weeks.
