Bayern Munich Reach Agreement in Principle with Nick Woltemade

Bayern Munich have agreed on personal terms with Stuttgart’s talented player, Nick Woltemade, for a contract until June 2030. The move now relies on discussions with Stuttgart, as Bayern try to stay ahead of interest from top European clubs.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Bayern and Woltemade have reached a verbal agreement for a long-term deal, with salary details completed and the club’s supervisory board approving the transfer. However, no formal talks between Bayern and Stuttgart have occurred. Woltemade, 23, scored 17 goals and assisted three times in 33 matches last season, helping Stuttgart win the DFB-Pokal.

The forward’s contract with Stuttgart ends in 2028 and does not have a release clause, putting Stuttgart in a strong position to negotiate. They are eager to retain the player’s services, but several top clubs, such as Real Madrid, Chelsea, and Everton, expressed interest. However, Woltemade has shown his intent to join Bayern promptly.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

This signing is part of Bayern’s effort to rebuild their squad after winning the Bundesliga last season. Their search for a dependable striker follows a campaign of inconsistent offense and shows that Kane is not a long-term project for the club.

Woltemade’s outstanding performance with Stuttgart, especially his role in their DFB-Pokal victory and his physical presence as a 6’6″ striker, made him a desirable target. Stuttgart finished middle of the table in the Bundesliga, but won the DFB Pokal, marking their best league campaign in years. Acquiring Woltemade would not only bolster Bayern’s attack but also weaken a domestic rival.

WHAT’S NEXT?

The transfer now relies on successful negotiations between Bayern and Stuttgart. With no release clause in his contract, Stuttgart holds significant leverage and is expected to ask for a substantial fee. Stuttgart is determined to keep their striker as they prepare for the German Supercup against Bayern on August 16, where both teams could be vying for early-season silverware. Both teams aim to build on strong Bundesliga campaigns, with Bayern looking to reclaim the title and Stuttgart striving to remain among Germany’s elite.
