Benjamin Šeško Set to Join Manchester United in Record €85 Million Deal

Manchester United have finished all the paperwork to sign Benjamin Šeško from RB Leipzig. The deal is confirmed to be worth up to €85 million, with reports detailing that United will pay an initial €76.5 million plus €8.5 million in add-ons for the 22-year-old Slovenian striker according to recent updates. Šeško will sign his contract on Saturday morning and will be introduced at Old Trafford the same day.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Manchester United and RB Leipzig have agreed on all terms for Šeško after he completed his medical examinations in Manchester on Friday. Notably, Newcastle United also made offers, including a €90 million bid, but Šeško opted for Manchester United, securing his place as the club’s third major attacking signing this summer, following Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. This decision comes as both teams were in fierce competition for the forward.

ŠEŠKO’S SEASON AND UNITED’S NEEDS

Šeško scored 21 goals and provided six assists in 39 matches across all competitions during his time with RB Leipzig last season, which wasn’t enough to help them secure a top-four finish. In contrast, Manchester United finished fifteenth in the Premier League, missing out on European football, and struggled with injuries and inconsistent performances, particularly in attack. Their top scorer, Rasmus Højlund, only managed 3 league goals, while other forwards faced challenges due to limited appearances. The new head coach, Ruben Amorim, is focused on rebuilding United’s squad to enhance competitiveness as part of the club’s strategy.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR UNITED AND ŠEŠKO?

Šeško will be officially introduced on Saturday during Manchester United’s final pre-season friendly against Fiorentina. The club aims to start the new Premier League season strong, with their first match against Arsenal. There are high expectations for Šeško to make an immediate impact, especially given RB Leipzig’s need to replace their top scorer and maintain their position in the Champions League after losing a key player to Manchester United. This transfer marks a significant step for both United and Šeško as they look to turn the page on a less-than-favorable previous campaign.
