Benjamin Šeško to Join Manchester United in a Mega €85m Transfer

Benjamin Šeško is set to join Manchester United as their new striker. The club has agreed on an €85 million deal with RB Leipzig, which includes add-ons. Šeško is ready to travel for his medical examination and sign a long-term contract at Old Trafford.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Manchester United has reached an agreement with RB Leipzig for the transfer of Benjamin Šeško. The initial fee is €76.5 million, with an additional €8.5 million in easy-to-achieve add-ons, making the total almost guaranteed at €85 million. Šeško, 22, chose United despite Newcastle’s interest. RB Leipzig initially preferred Newcastle due to their higher upfront offer, but Šeško’s desire to join United secured the deal. He will sign a contract until June 2030 confirmed by reports, and is expected to fly to England for his medical examination to finalize the transfer.

BACKGROUND: NEW STRIKER FOR UNITED

Šeško’s signing addresses Manchester United’s need for a proven striker after a disappointing last season, where the team finished 15th in the Premier League with only 44 goals scored. Last season, Šeško performed well for Leipzig, scoring 21 goals in 39 games across all competitions including four in the UEFA Champions League. His speed, strength, and finishing abilities have made him one of Europe’s top young forwards. Manchester United has been looking for a reliable number nine following the struggles of Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee. Šeško is United’s third major attacking signing during this transfer window, following Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

LOOKING AHEAD: UNITED’S PLANS AND FIXTURES

Manchester United plans to present Šeško soon, with high hopes for his impact this season. As pre-season nears its end, United’s first match of the 2025/26 Premier League season is against Arsenal, last year’s runner ups and the team that a former target, Gyokeres, ended up opting for. United currently aims to return to the Champions League after missing out last season, and Šeško will play a crucial role in manager Ruben Amorim’s revamped attack as confirmed by reports. RB Leipzig, on the other hand, finished sevenths in the Bundesliga and missing out on European football, will work on replacing their top scorer ahead of their Champions League campaign. United is also considering potential midfield signings as they complete their ambitious summer rebuild.
