Bologna Agree Deal for Jonathan Rowe in Major Summer Signing
Bologna have made a deal with Olympique Marseille to sign Jonathan Rowe. The transfer will cost €19 million, and Marseille will get 10% of any future sale. The English winger will join Vincenzo Italiano’s team soon to add more attacking options for the important Serie A season coming up.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Bologna secured Jonathan Rowe from Marseille after working on the deal for weeks. Rowe, 21, played 31 times for Marseille last season, scoring three goals and assisting on four more. The transfer became possible after Rowe was listed for transfer following a reported dispute with teammate Adrien Rabiot. As confirmed in recent reports, Marseille made Jonathan Rowe available for transfer, setting an asking price of around €20 million.
Rowe has already agreed to personal terms with Bologna. The only remaining steps are the final paperwork and medical exams before the deal is confirmed.
BOLOGNA’S SITUATION AND ROWE’S IMPACT
Bologna finished the 2024/25 Serie A season in 9th place, but won the Coppa Italia and as such qualified for the Europa League. Coach Vincenzo Italiano aims to strengthen the team’s attack this summer after the club’s performance declined in the later part of the season. Adding Rowe is part of Bologna’s plan to catch up to the teams above itself. Bologna had a strong 2024/25 Serie A season, securing a European competition spot, which positions them favorably moving forward.
With his speed and creativity, Rowe adds a new element to Bologna’s wide play. Last season, he featured in 28 Ligue 1 games for Marseille, notching three goals and providing three assists, making him a valuable addition to the squad. Bologna hopes Rowe will help push them back into European qualification this year.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR BOLOGNA AND MARSEILLE?
Bologna’s first match of the 2025/26 season is against Roma, who finished 5th last season and aim to reach the Champions League spots this season. Bologna will seek a strong start with Rowe, possibly playing if his registration is done in time. For Marseille, offloading Rowe gives them more room to maneuver in the transfer market after a difficult summer. Norwich City, Rowe’s former club, will receive additional funds from the sell-on clause included in the deal.
