Borussia Dortmund and Lyon Battle to Sign Brighton’s Facundo Buonanotte
Borussia Dortmund and Lyon are both in advanced talks to sign Facundo Buonanotte from Brighton. This summer’s transfer race is heating up as both teams compete for the talented Argentine midfielder.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Dortmund joined Lyon in the hunt for Buonanotte after another target became difficult to sign. Talks with Brighton are moving forward but neither club has reached a full agreement yet. Buonanotte impressed in the 2024-25 season during his loan at Leicester City, scoring 5 goals and providing key assists in 31 league appearances.
WHY BUONANOTTE IS IN DEMAND
Buonanotte, only 20 years old, has shown great promise. He played 40 league games for Brighton, scoring 4 times. During his loan at Leicester, he scored 5 Premier League goals but his help wasn’t enough to avoid relegation. Buonanotte has also made appearances for the Argentina national team. Dortmund want a stronger midfield after finishing fourth in the Bundesliga. Lyon, who ended sixth in Ligue 1, hope to boost their squad as they return to top European competitions this season when they play Europa League.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE CLUBS AND BUONANOTTE?
Dortmund are preparing for a Champions League season and will face FC Saint Pauli, who finished 14th and only 3 points safe from relegation, in their Bundesliga opener. Lyon’s first Ligue 1 match is against Metz, who also abttled against relegation last season. Both clubs are trying to finalize talks as quickly as possible to give Buonanotte time to settle before the new season. Brighton, meanwhile, are looking ahead to their own Premier League campaign, currently planning for life with or without their young star. Last season, Brighton finished 11th in the Premier League, which may impact their strategy moving forward.
