Borussia Dortmund Close In On Double Swoop For Chukwuemeka And Anselmino

Borussia Dortmund are about to sign Carney Chukwuemeka and Aaron Anselmino from Chelsea. The deals should be done next week.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Dortmund are almost finished with talks to sign both players. Chukwuemeka is a 21-year-old midfielder. He will join for about €20 million in a permanent deal, as reported in a recent update. Anselmino is a young defender. He will join on loan without a buy option.

Both players have agreed to the move. Anselmino wants more playing time. Chukwuemeka wants to continue playing well after last season’s loan, where he made 17 appearances for Dortmund, scoring once. Chelsea previously said no to earlier offers, including a loan with a purchase option.

DORTMUND AND CHELSEA: THE CONTEXT

Dortmund finished fourth in the Bundesliga last season, failing to challenge Bayern Munich for the title. This season, they started with a draw against St Pauli and will face Union Berlin next.

Dortmund need to strengthen their squad, especially in midfield and defense, having conceded three goals in their season opener. Chelsea finished fourth in the Premier League last season. Chukwuemeka did not play much under head coach Enzo Maresca and was made available for transfer. Anselmino seeks more minutes after having limited first-team action.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR CLUB AND PLAYERS?

Dortmund want to quickly add Chukwuemeka and Anselmino to their squad before their next Bundesliga fixture against Union Berlin. Their Champions League group stage campaign starts in over two weeks. Head coach Niko Kovač seeks reinforcements ready for upcoming challenges.

Chukwuemeka is expected to compete for a regular midfield spot. Anselmino will provide extra cover at center-back. Chelsea will focus on further transfers as the deadline approaches, aiming to finalize additional deals before the window closes.

An official announcement from both Dortmund and Chelsea should come soon to confirm the transfers.
