Borussia Dortmund Push for Permanent Signing of Carney Chukwuemeka

Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea have started talks again about Carney Chukwuemeka. Both teams want a permanent deal to send the midfielder to Germany.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Discussions grew after Chukwuemeka did well on loan at Dortmund last season, playing 17 games and appearing in the Club World Cup. Both he and Dortmund want a permanent move, but Chelsea wants a permanent deal, not another loan. Chelsea first asked for a high price but they are now willing to lower it to around €25 million for the 21-year-old. Chelsea values Chukwuemeka at €40 million, which adds complexity to the negotiation process.

WHY DORTMUND WANT CHUKWUEMEKA

Chukwuemeka’s lively play last season helped Dortmund in competitions at home and abroad. Sporting director Sebastian Kehl said, “We will definitely have some more discussions in the next few days about his situation… It won’t be easy, but we will try to keep him because he’s a very good player.” Dortmund ended last season in fourth place and want more midfielders as they face tough contests in Germany and Europe next season.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Dortmund hope to close the deal before the season starts, as they aim to finalize the signing of Chukwuemeka before their first Bundesliga match. Chelsea are changing their squad and want to sell several players, with Chukwuemeka likely to leave first. Both teams want to agree soon as Dortmund prepare for the Bundesliga opener against St Pauli, who finished close to the relegation spots last season.
