Brandon Soppy Leaves Atalanta After Contract Termination

Brandon Soppy and Atalanta have ended their relationship after agreeing to end his contract. The French player did not get much playing time and is now a free agent looking for new opportunities.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Soppy, 24 years old, joined Atalanta from Udinese in 2022 for €9 million (£7.7 million). Unfortunately, his time in Bergamo did not go as planned. Soppy played only 15 league games for Atalanta in the 2024-25 Serie A season.

He also had a short loan spell at Torino earlier this year before returning to his parent club. Realising that his time with the first team was limited, both parties decided to part ways on good terms, and his contract was terminated with immediate effect.

This gives Soppy the freedom to join another club as a free agent. He has attracted interest from multiple teams including Strasbourg, Trabzonspor, and Real Betis, who can offer him regular playing time.

ATALANTA’S SITUATION

The Serie A side had a tough 2024-25 domestic campaign. After a slow start, they finished 3rd in Serie A, qualifying for the Champions League.. The club has been active in shaping its squad for the upcoming season. With Soppy’s departure, a non-EU spot opens up, giving Atalanta more flexibility in strengthening their squad.

Atalanta finished 3rd in Serie A last season, qualifying for the Champions League.

The club is expected to bring in defensive reinforcements as they look to add more depth to their backline. Atalanta will play in a pre-season friendly before beginning the new Serie A campaign at home against Genoa on August 16.

They face tough competition from teams such as Torino and Fiorentina in their quest for European qualification. Both teams finished just ahead of Atalanta in the league standings last season.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR SOPPY?

The French right-back is now in the transfer market as a free agent. He will be looking for a club where he can be guaranteed regular playing time. Some potential destinations for Soppy include France, Spain, and Turkey.

Atalanta, on the other hand, will continue to reshape their squad as they prepare for the league’s opening fixtures. With no European competition next season, the 2025-26 season is paramount for Atalanta in their bid to close the gap on the teams above them.
