The Brazilian Football Federation is confident they can make Carlo Ancelotti their new head coach. The 65-year-old Italian may leave Real Madrid soon and join Brazil in the next few weeks.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Ancelotti seems ready to be the Brazilian national team’s coach, and leaving Real Madrid looks likely. Even though he signed with Madrid until 2026, he wants to leave. Brazilian officials are in Spain to finalize the deal before the Club World Cup this summer.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

This possible hiring is important for both sides. Ancelotti is under pressure at Real Madrid after poor results, like losing to Arsenal in the Champions League quarterfinals and Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final. Brazil has been losing too, most recently 4-1 to Argentina in a World Cup qualifier. They hope Ancelotti can help turn things around.

Real Madrid is second in La Liga, four points behind Barcelona, with a key El Clasico on May 11 that may be Ancelotti’s last game. If he goes, Madrid must choose between an interim coach like Santi Solari or a permanent option such as Xabi Alonso.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR ANCELOTTI?

If the agreement is finished, Ancelotti will begin coaching Brazil in June, possibly debuting in qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay. This will be his first national team job since he was Italy’s assistant coach when they lost to Brazil in the 1994 World Cup final. His focus will be on guiding Brazil through qualification and preparing them for the 2026 World Cup in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

This opportunity allows Ancelotti to add international management to his impressive career, possibly becoming Brazil’s first foreign coach in decades. Hiring someone of his skill shows Brazil’s goal to return to being the world’s best football team.
