Brentford Complete €17.5m Signing of Michael Kayode from Fiorentina

Brentford have signed defender Michael Kayode from Fiorentina for €17.5 million. The 22-year-old has agreed to a long-term contract with the London club that will last until 2030.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Michael Kayode is now a Brentford player after the club activated the purchase option in his loan deal with Fiorentina. The talented defender initially joined Brentford on loan in January 2025 and impressed enough to secure a long-term contract. Kayode has signed a five-year deal with Brentford, which will keep him at the club until 2030. This represents a significant investment for the Premier League side.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

The signing of Kayode is another statement of intent from Brentford as they continue their impressive journey in the Premier League. Since being promoted to the top flight in 2021, Brentford have established themselves as a stable Premier League team with a successful recruitment strategy. They are currently enjoying another good season, sitting 11th in the Premier League table with one match remaining. However, they recently suffered a disappointing 3-2 home defeat to rivals Fulham on May 18.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR BRENTFORD?

With Kayode’s signing complete, Brentford will now focus on their final Premier League match of the season. The club is also competing in the Carabao Cup and will face Newcastle United in the quarter-finals on Wednesday. Manager Thomas Frank hopes that Kayode can help strengthen a defense that has shown occasional weakness this season. Brentford are currently three points behind Aston Villa in 10th place and could finish in the top half with a victory in their final match. They are also looking to continue their impressive cup run against Newcastle.
