Burnley Set to Sign Lesley Ugochukwu and Armando Broja from Chelsea
Burnley have agreed transfers for Lesley Ugochukwu and Armando Broja from Chelsea. Both players are having medicals before signing contracts this week.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Burnley, who are newly promoted to the Premier League, have made a deal with Chelsea for Ugochukwu‘s permanent transfer. Ugochukwu is a 21-year-old midfielder, and he will join Burnley on a four-year contract once he completes his medical test. It is thought that Burnley will pay around the same as Chelsea paid Rennes for him in 2023. He spent last season on loan at Southampton and played 31 matches for them in all competitions. Chelsea’s Albanian striker Broja will also move to Burnley in a similar deal. Burnley are rebuilding their squad in a big way after promotion.
BURNLEY’S AMBITIOUS REBUILD
After winning the Championship last season, Burnley’s rebuilding effort is well under way. Managed by Scott Parker, Burnley has already signed Kyle Walker from Man City and Loum Tchaouna from Lazio this summer. Ugochukwu is expected to strengthen Burnley’s midfield, while Broja is expected to be a first-team regular. Though Ugochukwu has a reputation as a defensive-minded player, he is also capable of playing box-to-box. Broja is a pacey striker who plays with power.
WHAT COMES NEXT?
Burnley’s players will undergo medicals and sign long-term contracts this week. Burnley will immediately reap the benefits of these new signings as they prepare for the Premier League season. Burnley’s first match in the Premier League is against Tottenham in London, which should be a tough fixture. Burnley should expect fighting against relegation this season, as they aim to make a strong impact upon their return to the top flight.
