Carlos Cuesta Appointed Parma Head Coach on Multi-Year Deal

Parma have announced the appointment of Carlos Cuesta as their new head coach. The promising Spanish coach has signed a contract until June 2027, with an option for one more season.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Carlos Cuesta, formerly Mikel Arteta’s assistant at Arsenal, has agreed to take charge of Parma’s first team. This will be his first role as a head coach at the senior level. The club confirmed on June 19 that Cuesta will begin his role on July 1. The 29-year-old Spaniard has committed to the club for at least two seasons, with the option to extend for another year. Cuesta arrives in Italy with experience from working with youth and senior teams at Atlético Madrid, Juventus, and Arsenal, where he was praised for his tactical insight and connection with players.

WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT FOR PARMA?

Parma recently escaped relegation and are now focusing on stability and progress in the 2025-26 season. Hiring Cuesta shows the club’s ambition to modernize and take a fresh approach. Parma finished last season just above the relegation zone, making the choice of a young coach a strategic move as they look to stay in the top flight. For Cuesta, this is a big step forward in his career, having worked under respected managers and now being trusted to lead a famous Italian club.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Cuesta will have an official presentation at the Ennio Tardini Stadium on June 26. He will start pre-season training with Parma, aiming to introduce his philosophy and help the team start strong. Their first match of the new Serie A season will be very important as they try to avoid another relegation battle. Parma will look to strengthen their team during the transfer window, and fans hope Cuesta’s arrival brings new energy and ambition for the club.
