Carlos Soler Joins Real Sociedad on Permanent Transfer From PSG

Carlos Soler has moved permanently from Paris Saint-Germain to Real Sociedad. This ends uncertainty about his future and strengthens the Basque club’s midfield for the new La Liga season.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The 28-year-old Spanish midfielder joins Real Sociedad after they agreed on a transfer with PSG. The deal is worth around €8 million plus bonuses, and PSG will receive 50% of any future sale. As previous reports indicated, Soler was on loan at West Ham United last season but struggled to secure a permanent spot in their squad and returned to PSG. Now, Real Sociedad is bringing him back to Spain. Soler will undergo a medical and sign his new contract in San Sebastián this week, ending his three-year stint overseas. The deal initially started as negotiations for a loan, but Sociedad secured a permanent transfer instead.

REAL SOCIEDAD’S SITUATION

Sociedad finished eleventh in La Liga last season, failing to earn them qualification for the UEFA Europa League after a disappointing campaign. The squad’s goal is to improve further this season and target a top-four position. Sociedad’s midfield needs more depth after several injuries in the second half of last season saw them drop behind Athletic Club and Atlético Madrid in the standings, missing out on a European. The arrival of Soler, known for his passing and vision, should help address this issue. His presence will add experience to the team, especially with European football returning to San Sebastián. Last season, Soler made 32 appearances across all competitions at West Ham, scoring three goals and providing four assists. He will be hoping to rediscover his best form back in La Liga.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR BOTH CLUBS?

Real Sociedad’s next match of the new La Liga season is against Real Madrid. Real Madrid are leaders of La Liga after three matchdays, level on points with Athletic Club. Sociedad currently sits 16th, with only two points from three matches. Soler’s addition could help create more chances and solidify their position ahead of their Basque rivals. Meanwhile, PSG continues its rebuild with new signings and does not see Carlos Soler in their future plans, facilitating this move. A fresh start in Spain gives Soler the chance to become a central figure at a club seeking stability and ambition in both domestic and European competitions.
